Give short answer to the following

 Q1. What is germination?

Ans: the process of converting a seed into seedling.

Q2.  what are the necessary conditions for seed to germinate?

Ans:  Temperature, moisture, air, and light conditions must be correct for seeds to germinate.

Q3. what is the role of cotyledons in the growth of a seedling

Ans: Cotyledons function to provide the initial growth for the plant and as an energy source.

Q4. what is vegetative reproduction?

Q5. How does soil affect the growth of the plant?

Ans: Plants growth is greatly affected by the type of soil. different types of soil suitable for different kinds of plants. for example black soil is suitable for cotton plants.

Answer the following question

Q1. Name the different parts of the seed. Support your answer with diagram.
Ans: Parts of the seed
1. Seed coat: The outer hard covering of the seed.
2. Embryo: Tiny plant inside the seeed.
3. Cotyledon: Fleshy part of the seed which provide food to the embryo.

Q2. State the three main ways by which new plant can be grown.
Ans: Method of growing new plant:
1. A new plant can be grown from the seed of the plant.
2. Plants like rose can be grown from the stem.
3. Bryophyllum can be grown from the leaf.
4. Mint and potato can be grown from the root of the plant.

Q3. Which factors affect the growth and development of the plant. Explain briefly.
Ans: The following factors affect the growth and development of the plant
1. Soil: Different kind of soil is suitable for different kind of crops. For example black soil is suitable for growing cotton.
2. Climate: A single kind of climate is not suitable for all kinds of plant. For example, cactus grows in desert whereas coconut tree grow in coastal areas.
3. Season: Some plants are seasonal. For example, wheat is a winter (rabi) crop.

Q4. Give five tips for better crop yield.
Ans: 1. Use healthy and better quality of seeds for sowing
2. Prepare the land value before sowing
3. Add manures and fertilizers to the soil
4. Irrigate the plants properly.
5. Remove weeds from the crop
6. Use insecticides and pesticides to keep the crop pest free

Q5. What is seed dispersal? Name the agents of seed dispersal.
